I have recently just gotten back into Lana Del Ray's music. I loved her first album but then I forgot about her until she just came back with a new album a few months ago! She has a very distinctive look and a even more distinctive voice. Her voice is very expressive and kind of low. My favorite songs from her 'Born To Die' album are Million Dollar Man and Carmen.
Now on to her new album! I rediscovered her when I was watching an H&M commercial with her singing my now new favorite song Blue Velvet! Also Paradise because it's a lot different from her sad sounding music. It's a lot more pop.
I really liked that documentary. It's actually cool and interesting and won't make you fall asleep. I would have loved to be a part of Woodstock. It looked super chill and fun. I don't know about all the naked babies running around though. I might have stepped in their poop. Also the conversations I would have with the other people would be so hilarious I wouldn't even need to get high!
I really liked watching Jimi Hendrix perform! He was really into it and the way he played the electric guitar was super intense. When I first heard the Star Spangled Banner I was like is this Star Spangled Banner? It was! At first I was really sure but then he mixed it up and I was like wait what?! Nevertheless I still really like it!
So this week I was watching Sucker Punch and I heard a mashup of I Want It All and We Will Rock You by Queen ft. Armageddon and I was like oh my jebus this is so awesome. At first I was like what is this but then I heard Freddie in the back and I fell out of the couch. The music combined with the scene of Baby Doll fighting the dragon with explosions everywhere is one of my favorite parts in the whole movie.
It rocked my socks off.
Another scene I really liked was the intro scene. There was a cover of Sweet Dreams by Euthymics. I later found out that Emily Browning( The main character/Babydoll) did the cover by herself which made it ten times cooler in my book. I love how dramatic it is coupled with the music. The intro scene hooked me.
This week in class you showed us Gronlandic Edit by Of Montreal and I instantly fell in love. I fell in love with the song AND the video. What I first noticed about it is that is it REALLY similar to The Beatles Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.(lol LSD) They even sound like The Beatles at the very beginning. I like how they layer their voices at one point. I also like how they stutter things. The beat is so cash. I could listen to this all day. All the churches filled with losers, psycho or confused I just want to hold the divine in mine That is my absolute favorite line in the entire song because of the way they sing it.
